Gloria
Palm Sunday Procession
The hymn All glory, laud, and honour (Gloria laus et honor) is said to have been written in the year 820, and in the 1200 years since then has become associated with the Christian celebration of Palm Sunday one week before Easter. It is traditionally sung in procession at the start of worship on that day but is also appropriate for other times of the year, including Christ the King.
Palm Sunday is an exuberant, joyful moment in the midst of an otherwise sombre season—Lent. It celebrates the humble kingship of Christ, who entered the holy city of Jerusalem riding on a donkey. It also marks the last moments of public praise before Jesus is betrayed, tortured, and crucified.
This continues a series of works based on ancient Latin hymns and liturgical sequences.
